Great Southern Archers 5 November 2011

A warm morning greeted the 3 Beginners; Paula, Jo and Nigel at Great Southern Archers. Being the third week of the beginners course, sights are attached to the recurve bow to aid in more precise shooting at the target. Once adjustments had been made to the sights, many of the arrows were hitting the centre of the target. At the break a discussion was held describing the other types of bow that are used in archery such as the compound bow, longbow and crossbow. Paula decided to try out the crossbow and following instruction given by Coach John Clark, hit the target with all 6 crossbow bolts in a small group. Club member Steve Rooney also tried out the crossbow with equal success.

In the afternoon Coach Allen Stribling gave club members a demonstration on how to fletch arrows, using the ones Todd Wallace had just received. Later in the day, Todd took to the target range to try out his newly fletched arrows. Greg Mitchell and Garry Oster spent the day realigning more of the field course, making sure the shooting lanes are clear of trees and bushes.
