Fourteen archers and arbalists shot at 18 metres, but not all scored. We welcome new Sport Crossbow shooter Paul Bowyer who was shooting his new bow for the first time and having some fun pulling the bolts out of the target.

Near perfect conditions saw some really impressive shooting.

Archery is a sport where every member of the family can enjoy and Great Southern Archers is proud to have a number of family units shooting from the recreational l shooters to the full competitive shooters.

Quite a number of parents have taken up archery because son or daughter began shooting with the AJAD classes which are held every second Saturday morning.

Only ten archers made it to the 18 metre line on Monday evening. The recent Junior National Archery Championships seems to have worn many of the younger shooters out and none of the arbalist brigade were in attendance. Not all of the shooters lodged a score sheet.

Members are reminded that Indoor has resumed on a weekly basis until further notice.

Only 10 shooters took the shooting line at 18 metres with several
families on other duty at the Junior National Championships in
Adelaide.

Archery Saturday 22nd March

Archery began on Saturday morning with 4 juniors arriving for AJAD's despite the Easter weekend break.
All four practiced for the first part of the session at different distances.
Brayden Johns tried a compound bow for the first time and was pleased with the results.
During the break all four boys received medals or trophies from the AJAD's results last year.
After the break shooting resumed, this time with scoring included.
Brayden announced to all that he needed to "find out the unique qualities of the bow" before he could be successful!

Only six archers and arbalists braved the oppressive heat to
shoot at 18 metres and all decided to finish at the half way
mark.

GSA Inaugural Matchplay Tournament

Great Southern Archers held their Inaugural Matchplay
Tournament on the 8th and 9th March at their grounds at
Strathalbyn.

Between 6.00 and 6.30am each morning approximately fifteen to
twenty members arrived to set up targets, erect shade tents, and set up water
points for the expected heat of the day.

Matchplay is an important event as it is the same as that
used at the Olympic Games.

City of Adelaide Tournament at Adelaide Archery Club

On Sunday 10th February four archers from Great
Southern Archers attended the City of Adelaide Tournament at Adelaide Archery
Club.

The competition was classified as an "open
tournament", this is where all archers are in one division, only being
classified by the type of bow used.

Blue Lake Archers Tournament Mt Gambier

On Saturday the Blue Lake Archers held their tournament at Mt Gambier, which was attended by approximately 40 archers from various clubs.

Great Southern Archers were strongly represented by 11 members, making up almost a quarter of the competitors.

Our club had a very successful event with most members placing first in their respective divisions!
