Success for a Junior Archer

At Great Southern Archers on Saturday, Sebastian Hogan returned from the National Youth Archery Championships that were held in Armidale, N.S.W.  Sebastian shot several Personal Best scores while taking on the target, field and clout disciplines. He is to receive 2 Australia Star medals for shooting over 1000 points and over 1100 points in target and also to receive 2 Gold medals for shooting 2 gold ends, where all 6 arrows hit the gold, at two different target distances. Sebastian's scores for the Nationals were; 2 Target rounds-1115 and 1166 points, 2 Field rounds-240 and 272 points and for Clout-292 points.

Several club members used the target range for practice at several different distances. Paula Songhurst moved onto 35 metres and continued to hit the gold and red inner circles of the target using her crossbow. Nigel Songhurst moved up to 25 metres with good success and next week will try out a 24lb recurve bow at the same distance. Dave Powell tested out his compound bow at 20, 30 and 40 metres with most of his arrows hitting the gold. Brayden Johns continued to shoot at 30 metres with his barebow compound with good results and he will move onto 35 metres next time at archery.

John Smith "paper tuned" his compound bow whereby he shoots through paper set up on a frame a metre infront of the target. By looking at the tear in the paper you can check if your arrows are flying true.

Indoor: Monday 16-01-12.

On a very hot night, 11 archers and arbalists turned out for indoor archery at Goolwa. Conditions were not helped by the fact the floor had just had its annual resurfacing and was exuding fumes.

Scores for the night were:

Master Mens Compound: Garry Oster 552, Greg Mitchell 541.

Veterens Men Barebow Recurve: Ric Petersen 348, Michael Spanner 311.

Veterens Crossbow: John Clark 285, Chris Widmark 279.
