This Week at Great Southern Archers

It was Week One of Beginners at Great Southern Archers on Saturday. Once Nigel, Paula and Jo had received a recurve bow of the correct poundage and then learnt  how to correctly string the bow they headed to the range where the target was set up at 10 metres.

After several misses all three beginners found their aiming points and then began to hit the target with good precision.

Also starting in the morning and working all day were Club members Greg Mitchell and Garry Oster who spent the time reconfiguring parts of the field course to give more clearance for the clout area.

In the afternoon junior members Tim Oertel and Brayden Johns came along to put in practice at 30 metres. Both lads did extremely well, hitting the gold a number of times. Next week Tim and Brayden will be progressing to 40 metres.

Indoor archery for 17th October: It was great to see Christine Widmark back on the shooting line following an absence of 3 1/2 months on doctor's orders. There were 10 shooters from three clubs with an interesting tussle between 2 veterans in the barebow recurve division in which Michael Spanner pipped Ric Petersen by one point.

Scores: Master Mens Compound; Garry Oster 565, Greg Mitchell 545,

Veteren BB Recurve; Michael Spanner 355, Ric Petersen 354.

Veteren Crossbow; John Clark 587, Christine Widmark 573.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend Vera Pennington. Vera took up the crossbow in her seventies as did her husband Bill. Our annual Orphan's Shoot has been renamed in her honour to be the "Vera Pennington Memorial Shoot".
