A Windy Afternoon for Target Shooting

Saturday at Great Southern Archers, the wind became a factor that everyone had to contend with. As soon as shooting commenced, the wind picked up and remained for the afternoon, buffeting the bows and making it difficult to hold them straight at times.

Paula Songhurst shot at a distance of 35 metres with the crossbow and improved greatly as the day progressed while Nigel Songhurst shooting a recurve bow at 20 metres grouped his arrows consistently in and around the gold of the target. Steve Rooney and John Smith who shot the distance of 60 metres found the conditions to be very trying at times however they still managed good scores.

AJADs Brayden Johns and Rylee Jemson had a go at the 30 metre distance. Both lads shoot Compound Bows with Brayden having no sights on his bow. He needs to guess where his aiming point will be on the target in order to hit the Gold which he was able to do frequently. Rylee who shoots with a sight showed a marked improvment on his score at the 30 metre distance. He then surprised himself with getting a 6 Gold which means all his arrows landed in the Gold area of the target.

Greg Mitchell, Garry Oster and John Clark spent the day clearing the areas of the ground of non native flora.

Next Saturday at the Great Southern Archery Club will be the Christmas Breakup. The BBQ starts at 12 Noon then presentations of Certificates for those who competed in the Club's Target, Field, Clout and Indoor Championships. This will be followed by a novelty shoot in the afternoon for the AJADS.

Scores: 60 metres:Steve Rooney: 810, John Smith 714,

            30 metres: Rylee Jemson 741.
